by Ananya Mehta

In a major breakthrough in a human trafficking racket, the City Crime Branch arrested Rameshwar Pratap Singh, a 53-year-old employee of VJet Vietnam Airlines, on Friday. Singh, a resident of Mira Road, is accused of helping a syndicate smuggle over 80 people from Gujarat to Canada, London, and Turkey using forged documents.

The arrest came after investigators from the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) discovered Singh’s involvement while reviewing mobile phones seized from Ajit Puri, one of the co-accused. Singh was produced before a holiday court and remanded to police custody for further questioning.

Singh’s role in facilitating the human trafficking operation by providing forged documents is at the center of the probe. The police are continuing their investigation and are also looking for Rajesh Panchal, another key suspect in the case. Earlier in the week, the police had already arrested Roshad Dudhwadkar, Ajit Puri, and Imtiaz Shaikh in connection with the racket.
