EL PASO, TEXAS (KTSM) — A 44-year-old business owner has been arrested in connection with a large-scale illegal dumping case, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Abraham Ryan Romero, owner of Road Runner Disposal, was taken into custody on Thursday, July 3, and charged with one count of illegal dumping of more than 1,000 pounds or 200 cubic feet. His bond was set at $2,000.

The investigation began on June 23, when deputies responded to a report of suspected illegal dumping in the 500 block of North Ascension Street in East El Paso County. Upon arrival, deputies found over 200 cubic feet of waste dumped illegally on a private lot, which is not an authorized waste site.

A joint effort by patrol deputies and detectives from the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station Criminal Investigations Division led to the identification of Romero, a resident of the 200 block of Emerald Sun, as the suspect responsible.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the property used for dumping was not a licensed solid waste facility, and the amount of debris clearly violated state environmental laws.

Sheriff Oscar Ugarte reminded the public:

“Illegal dumping is a criminal offense in the State of Texas. We urge residents to report any suspected illegal dumping to law enforcement.”

The case remains under investigation, and further environmental reviews are pending.
