Abhijit Sarkar, the suspected mastermind of a massive fraud at a private bank in Udaipur, was arrested in Agartala on Friday.
The police confirmed that Sarkar, a deputy manager at HDFC Bank, was detained at the Agartala railway station. Authorities stated that he would be presented in court on Saturday.
In connection with the scam, a police constable from R.K. Pur police station has been suspended from duty and reassigned to the Udaipur police line.
Customers of HDFC Bank in Udaipur had reported unauthorized withdrawals from their fixed deposit accounts, amounting to more than Rs. 82 lakh. Several complaints followed as the fraud came to light.
Investigators suspect that additional individuals, including the wife of the suspended constable, may also be involved in the fraudulent activities.
SDPO Nirman Das, who is overseeing the investigation, assured the public that appropriate actions would be taken against all those responsible.
