A tragic incident unfolded in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, when a four-year-old boy, Vivaan, died after allegedly being pushed by his stepmother, Priya, police said on Monday.
The complaint was filed by Vivaan’s father, Rahul Kumar, on Sunday. He suspected that Priya may have caused the incident that resulted in his son’s death on October 27 in the Doiwala block. According to Kumar, Priya often treated Vivaan harshly and physically punished him over minor matters.
Rahul Kumar, a resident of Bullawala village, had married Priya after the death of his first wife. Vivaan was the child of his first marriage. On October 27, after Kumar left for work, Vivaan reportedly sustained serious injuries and died on the way to the hospital.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case at Doiwala Police Station under Section 105 of the BNS (culpable homicide). During the investigation, police gathered statements from neighbors and took Priya into custody for questioning.
During interrogation, Priya allegedly confessed to pushing Vivaan in a fit of rage, causing the injuries that led to his death. She has since been arrested and is in police custody as the investigation continues.
Authorities continue to investigate the case to determine any additional circumstances or involvement, highlighting the serious concerns of child safety and domestic violence in households.
