Police have arrested Anant, also known as Akshya Mhadeshwar, a resident of Kudal, Maharashtra, for breaking into a house in Merces and stealing gold ornaments valued at Rs 10 lakh. Authorities revealed that he is a habitual offender with involvement in four previous theft cases across Goa and Maharashtra.

Pooja Rajendra Mangaonkar, a 56-year-old housewife from Perimbhat, Merces, reported that her flat was burglarized between 4 PM on August 29 and 2:15 AM the following morning. Among the stolen items were a 30g gold coin, a 2g pair of earrings, a 40g mangalsutra, and two pairs of bangles totaling 40g, along with other valuables, summing to approximately Rs 10 lakh.

The Old Goa police registered the case, and PSI Saiesh Bhonsle, along with his team, visited the site and conducted a panchanama. CCTV footage showed a suspicious person on a scooter near the area. A team was formed to trace the suspect, who was eventually chased and apprehended in Merces.

Upon questioning, the accused admitted to the theft. A check in the Interoperable Criminal Justice System confirmed his history of similar offenses in both Maharashtra and Goa, underlining his status as a habitual offender.
