Police in San Jose have arrested seven individuals in connection with a violent smash-and-grab robbery that left an 88-year-old jewelry store owner hospitalized.
At a press conference on Friday, Assistant Police Chief Brian Shab detailed the outcomes of the investigation into the September 5 attack at Kim Hung Jewelry, located on Aborn Road.
“From the moment these cowards fled Kim Hung Jewelry, we never stopped pursuing them,” said Shab. “That persistence has now paid off.”
According to authorities, the group drove a vehicle into the storefront before at least 10 suspects stormed inside, stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry. During the chaos, the elderly store owner was shoved to the ground. He later suffered a stroke and was hospitalized. He has since been released and is recovering at home.
Shab emphasized the broader impact of the attack, stating, “This wasn’t just an assault on a hardworking family. It was an attack on a legacy business that symbolizes the American dream.”
The investigation, which involved over 100 officers across multiple agencies and four SWAT teams, led to a wave of arrests over recent weeks.
The suspects include:
Angel Herrera, 21, of Pacifica
Toddisha Mayfield, 31, of San Leandro
Zakhari Blue-Gordon, 23, of East Palo Alto
Tom Donegan, 19, of Manteca
Jacques Samuel, 18, of San Francisco
Cisco Luti, 18, of South San Francisco
Amari Green, 21, of San Francisco
Jacques Samuel was the first to be arrested on September 22 in Dublin. Arrests of the other suspects followed in cities including Pacifica, San Leandro, San Jose, Manteca, and Antioch.
During the raids, officers recovered a firearm, a loaded magazine, ammunition, and a large quantity of suspected cocaine.
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan condemned the crime, stating, “Seven people are in custody—individuals who brutalized an elderly man, destroyed a family business, and terrorized an entire community. This wasn’t desperation. This was organized violence and theft.”
Police confirmed that Mayfield, Blue-Gordon, Donegan, Luti, and Green are being held at Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of robbery. Samuel remains in custody at San Francisco County Jail and is expected to be extradited.
Authorities are still searching for additional suspects and are urging those at large to surrender.
