City police successfully arrested two armed criminals, Rajesh Srivastava alias Guddu and Ranjit Singh alias Vijay Singh, for a high-profile theft involving cash and jewellery worth Rs 22 lakh. The operation also led to the recovery of two loaded pistols, 10 cartridges, and the autorickshaw used during the crime.
According to DCP (West) Hanuman Prasad, Rajesh Srivastava, a 28-year-old resident of Karni Path Colony, Harmada, originally from Muftasil Ara, Bihar, is a known history-sheeter with 11 cases registered against him at Vishwakarma police station. His accomplice, 28-year-old Ranjit Singh from Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, currently living in Khaurabeesal, Kardhani, has seven criminal cases registered.
The theft occurred on August 13 when the suspects broke into a house and made away with Rs 22 lakh in cash and valuable jewellery. Police investigations utilizing CCTV footage led to tracking a suspicious autorickshaw linked to the suspects.
Following leads, police raided the Khaurabeesal market and apprehended both criminals. Along with the suspects, officers seized the firearms and the autorickshaw used in the burglary. During interrogation, both men confessed to the crime. Notably, Srivastava had served five years in Jaipur jail for a 2013 murder case. The duo reportedly scouted empty houses during the day in the autorickshaw to plan their heist.
The arrests highlight the police’s swift action against armed robbery in the city.
