In a significant breakthrough, the local police on Tuesday claimed to have busted an inter-district burglary gang and arrested four key members involved in a series of thefts across Shivkuti and other areas of the city.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Vishal Kashyap (21)
Ankit Kashyap (19) – both brothers from Colonelganj
Shahi Sonkar (26) and Ajay Sonkar (25) – from Handia
The police also recovered valuable items from their possession, including gold and silver ornaments worth several lakhs of rupees, a laptop, Rs 5000 in cash, six mobile phones, and a scooter.
According to DCP (City) Abhishek Bharti, the suspects were involved in a theft at a house in Saraswati Vihar Colony, an army area under the jurisdiction of Shivkuti Police Station, on March 13, 2025. The house had been vacant as the owner was away on vacation.
Following the incident, the police formed three teams to crack the case, leading to the successful arrests and recovery of stolen property.
