Arne Wissman, the fire and rescue chief for New Fairview, Texas, was arrested on January 8, 2025, on a felony theft charge. The charge stems from an alleged theft of property valued between $150,000 and $300,000 that occurred in September 2024. While the specific details of the incident have not been fully disclosed, Wissman reportedly turned himself in to the Wise County Jail, where he was released the same day after posting a $50,000 bond.

City officials expressed their disappointment over the arrest. New Fairview City Administrator John Cabrales confirmed that Wissman continues to serve as the department’s fire chief, although New Fairview Fire Rescue is a nonprofit organization and not directly affiliated with the city government. The fire rescue group operates under a fire protection agreement with the city but is not funded by city resources. According to a statement from the city, no city funds are believed to be involved in the alleged theft.

“We are disheartened to hear this news, but wish to make it clear that to the City’s knowledge no city funds are involved in this alleged theft,” Cabrales stated. The city further emphasized that the New Fairview Fire Rescue organization remains operational, and fire protection services will continue for the city’s businesses and residents.

In addition to his role as fire chief, Wissman is also employed by Wise County EMS. Following his arrest, he was placed on administrative leave from his duties with the EMS, according to EMS Chief Randall Preuninger.

The situation continues to develop as further investigation takes place, and Wissman is expected to face legal proceedings related to the theft charge.
