Vishalsingh Rajput, a 29-year-old man from Gujarat, was arrested by the Naupada police in Mumbai for stealing Rs1.30 crore worth of jewelry from Virasat Jewellers. The accused had gained the trust of his employer, Yashwant Poonamia, after joining the jewelry store as an office boy earlier this year. In an elaborate plan, Rajput was entrusted with retrieving jewelry from a neighboring store, Sidharth Jewellers. However, instead of delivering the jewelry, he fled with both Sidharth’s and Virasat’s valuables.
Rajput, who had previously been involved in a theft case in Mumbai related to hawala money, made every effort to cover his tracks. He discarded his mobile phone and documents to avoid detection. The police initially faced difficulty tracking him down due to his evasive movements, including taking multiple auto rickshaws and hiding in remote locations like jungles and crematoriums.
After an extensive 10-day search in Mount Abu, Gujarat, the police finally located Rajput in a forested area. On June 7, he was apprehended, and the stolen jewelry worth Rs1.10 crore was recovered from his bag. Rajput’s efforts to evade the law ended, and the stolen goods were returned to the rightful owners.
