DAVENPORT, Iowa — A 34-year-old man from Davenport, Cody Grimm, was arrested on December 15 after stealing a running vehicle from its owner in a desperate bid to secure transportation for a job. Grimm faces felony charges of first-degree theft, first-degree robbery, and misdemeanor assault following the incident.

According to the criminal complaint, Grimm approached the victim’s vehicle, which was parked outside Sears Manufacturing at around 11:05 p.m. He knocked on the window and claimed that the victim’s tire was flat. When the victim exited the vehicle to inspect the tire, Grimm seized the opportunity to enter the car and drive off.

The victim attempted to enter the vehicle from the rear driver’s side but was struck and pushed to the ground as Grimm accelerated in reverse. Surveillance footage captured the victim limping after the incident, and he was nearly run over during the chaotic event.

Grimm, after being read his Miranda rights, admitted to the crime, explaining that he needed the vehicle to find employment. He was arrested shortly after and remains in the Scott County Jail without bond, awaiting his initial court appearance.
