A three-member women gang, allegedly involved in jewellery thefts across multiple districts, was busted by Aminabad police on Tuesday.
Police identified the accused as Sunita, her sister Anita, and their sister-in-law Kiran. According to SHO Sunil Kumar Azad, the trio would move from district to district every 10–15 days, targeting busy marketplaces and public transport before shifting to avoid detection.
The case came to light after Mithilesh Jaiswal filed a complaint stating that on January 3, while travelling with her daughter in an e-rickshaw from Post Office Tiraha to Rakabganj, the three women stole her gold chain and locket, along with a gold chain worn by her daughter.
An FIR was registered at Aminabad police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police traced the suspects using CCTV footage and other technical evidence. Acting on a tip-off, the trio was arrested from the Janana Park area of Aminabad on Tuesday.
Authorities recovered one gold chain, a gold locket attached to a mangalsutra, and Rs3,800 cash from their possession.
