In a high-profile operation, Arunachal Pradesh Police arrested Likha Taring (29) in connection with a multi-vehicle theft case spanning several locations in the state. The arrest took place in Medo, Lohit district, following a dramatic chase through a local tea estate.
The case began when a vehicle was reported stolen from Tarajuly Railway Station, Naharlagun, on August 23. Police quickly registered a case under Section 303 of the BNS and launched an intensive investigation.
Using a combination of technical surveillance and field intelligence, officers traced Taring, a resident of Pachin Colony, Naharlagun, to Medo. On September 3, a team led by Sub-Inspector PK Riram and supported by Lohit district officers successfully apprehended him.
The stolen vehicle was recovered from Taring’s possession. During interrogation, he disclosed details about another stolen car from Itanagar, which police later recovered in Harmutty, Assam, under the supervision of Inspector Torun Mai, OC Papu Hills Police Station.
Taring has been presented in court, and further investigations are ongoing to determine his involvement in other vehicle thefts. Authorities described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in combating vehicle thefts in Arunachal Pradesh.
