Agra Police have arrested three individuals in connection with a high-value theft at a footwear manufacturing unit in Sikandra, where cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs7.7 crore were stolen.
The accused were identified as Anupam Sharma (30), his brother Anurag Sharma (41), and their associate Sanjay Singh (42). They were apprehended while allegedly attempting to divide the stolen property, which had been hidden in a forested area in the city. Police recovered the entire loot.
According to authorities, Rs66.33 lakh in cash, 3.8 kg of gold jewellery studded with diamonds, and 5.5 kg of silver were taken from Roger Industries on January 19. The company owner, Deepak Budhiraja, filed a complaint at Sikandra police station after discovering broken locks on the factory gate and office lockers.
Police commissioner Deepak Kumar said that Anupam, who worked as a computer operator at the factory for four years, used his insider knowledge of the factory layout, security systems, and staff movements to plan the heist on a Sunday, when the unit was mostly closed.
Authorities stated that Anupam climbed an adjacent tin shed, broke a first-floor window, disabled a CCTV camera in the owner’s office, and stole the cash and jewellery. His brother Anurag Sharma and Sanjay Singh allegedly kept watch outside and later helped hide the loot in a nearby forest.
During interrogation, Anupam confessed that the theft was planned to arrange funds to settle in Bengaluru with his girlfriend. Anurag, who runs a dhaba in a village, reportedly assisted in planning the crime and involved Sanjay in the operation.
