Police in the Chanderi police station area of Ashoknagar district have cracked a soybean theft case involving a warehouse in the old grain market, arresting four accused and recovering nearly 20 quintals of stolen soybean valued at around Rs1.05 lakh, officials said.
The case came to light after Bhanu Kumar Modi, a trader from Chanderi, lodged a complaint stating that soybean stored in his warehouse at the old grain market had been stolen. Modi told police that he had inspected the warehouse on January 12 around noon along with his friend Rajesh Kumar Kathariya, and all soybean sacks were intact at that time.
However, when he visited the warehouse again on January 17, he noticed that windows on the rear wall were open and soybean was scattered near and outside the window. Upon checking, it was found that unknown persons had entered through the window and stolen nearly 20 quintals of soybean kept in sacks.
Following the complaint, Chanderi police registered a case against unknown persons and launched an investigation. A special team was formed under the supervision of the station in-charge. Acting on technical evidence and information received from an informer, police detained Jagdish alias Chhotu Kori for questioning.
During interrogation, Jagdish disclosed the involvement of his accomplices—Halke alias Rajpal Parihar, Munaf Ansari, and Akash alias Shahrukh Rains. He confessed that the group had carried out soybean theft from the warehouse two to three times. All the accused are residents of the old Bunkar Colony area of Chanderi.
Subsequently, police arrested all four accused and recovered the stolen soybean from their possession. According to police, 2 quintals were recovered from Jagdish Kori, 5 quintals from Halke alias Rajpal Parihar, 3 quintals from Munaf Ansari, and 10 quintals from Akash alias Shahrukh Rains.
All the accused have been produced before the court, and further legal proceedings are underway. Police officials said that security around warehouses will be strengthened to prevent similar thefts in the future.
