LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Four individuals were arrested by Lee County deputies in connection with a series of thefts at Walmart stores.
On Dec. 22, deputies responded to the Walmart on Pine Island Road regarding a previous theft. Dontavius Powell allegedly showed a fake receipt to steal a generator and two Kitchen-Aid mixers, leaving the store in a U-Haul van.
The next day, deputies discovered the same U-Haul in the Walmart parking lot while Powell was inside the store. Marcus Hammett, the driver, and passenger Domonique Golden were questioned as Powell and a fourth suspect, Erwin Staco, were leaving the store with unpaid merchandise. Powell and Staco attempted to flee from deputies during the arrest.
Investigators determined that Golden and Powell were also involved in a separate theft at the Estero Walmart, stealing multiple generators earlier that evening.
Charges for the suspects are as follows:
Dontavius Powell: two counts of grand theft and one count of petit theft
Erwin Staco: one count of petit theft and one count of resisting arrest without violence
Domonique Golden: grand theft (from the separate Estero Walmart incident)
Marcus Hammett: violating felony probation for prior retail theft in Miami
All four remain in custody as the investigation continues.
