In a disturbing incident, Mahendrakaur Gurdeepsingh Reshi, an 84-year-old woman, was robbed and assaulted in her home in Vallabh Vidyanagar, Anand district, on the intervening night of Monday. The woman, who was home alone as her son and daughter-in-law were abroad, had gold ornaments worth Rs2 lakh stolen by the accused, Vipul Vasava, who later assaulted her.

According to the police, Vasava, a resident of a nearby slum area, entered the house under the pretext of visiting his sister and brother-in-law, who worked for the Reshi family and lived in an outhouse on the property. Taking advantage of the victim’s solitude, he allegedly committed the robbery and assault.

Following a swift investigation, the police apprehended Vipul Vasava on Tuesday. He was charged with theft and assault, and the authorities are continuing to work on recovering the stolen items and fully understanding the circumstances behind the crime.
