Akwa Ibom Police Arrest 7 Over Cult-Linked Attack, Ritual Items Recovered
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of seven individuals linked to a violent cult-related assault, armed robbery, and the possession of both firearms and a fresh human skull.
Police also recovered one locally made short gun, seven live cartridges, and ritual-related items, including a bottle suspected to contain black oil and another labeled as Guyanese oil.
In a statement released in Uyo on Monday, September 1, 2025, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, revealed that the arrests followed a report made on August 25 by a student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.
The student, a former member of the now-proscribed Ku Klux Klans Confraternity, reported being ambushed and brutally attacked with dangerous weapons. He was left unconscious and sustained serious injuries. His Redmi 13C phone and ₦41,000 in cash were also stolen during the assault.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested on August 28, 2025. The individuals named include Douglas Ambe Esikhene, Stephen Asukwo Effiong, Saviour Dany Akpan, Emmanuel Friday Umoh, Augustine Uduak Okon, Mary Ating Asukwo, and Itohowo Christopher Uko.
DSP John confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the police are actively working to track down other members of the gang. She assured the public that updates will be shared as more developments unfold.
