On Wednesday, 15 cyber fraudsters were arrested by police in Nuh for their involvement in a scheme where they procured SIM cards using forged documents and created fake social media accounts to conduct fraudulent activities. The suspects were arrested after a tip-off and a detailed investigation, which tracked the phone numbers used in these cybercrimes. A total of 13 police teams participated in the operation, leading to arrests across various locations in Nuh.

According to Inspector Vimal Rai, a cybercrime inspector, the fraudsters used social media platforms to advertise fake goods and job offers. “They promised victims jobs or sold items such as clothes, tyres, cows, and buffaloes at cheap rates. They then asked for advance payments and blocked the victims after receiving the money,” said Rai. Additionally, the scammers offered job opportunities to victims, such as packing Natraj pencils from home, and demanded money for these fake positions.

Police seized 13 cell phones and 24 SIM cards from the accused. The SIM cards were illegally obtained from Assam and Bihar. These fraudsters targeted victims from multiple states, including Assam, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

A total of 12 cases have been registered against the suspects under sections such as 318 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 319 (cheating by personation) of the BNS. The arrested individuals were identified as:
