A 47-year-old woman was arrested after authorities seized methamphetamine tablets worth Rs16.65 crore from her possession in Champhai, a border town near the India–Myanmar frontier, officials said on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Mizoram Excise & Narcotics Department and the Assam Rifles carried out an operation in the Lalen Veng locality of Champhai on Tuesday. During the raid, officials recovered 5.55 kg of methamphetamine tablets.

The accused, identified as Zolianthangi, a resident of Venglai, Champhai, was taken into custody for possessing the contraband. Officials said the seized drugs were being smuggled to Sribhumi in Assam.

She has been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and cross-border links.
