ABERDEEN, N.C. — A Sanford woman is facing multiple criminal charges, including felony possession of cocaine, following an August arrest in which police say she resisted officers and was found with illegal substances.
According to the Aberdeen Police Department, officers responded to a report of a suspicious person on Longleaf Road on August 16. Upon arrival, officers encountered 20-year-old Zoee Rayon, who appeared hysterical and smelled of alcohol. Police confirmed she was under the legal drinking age and administered a breath test indicating alcohol consumption.
Officers attempted to arrest Rayon for misdemeanor consumption of alcohol by a 19/20-year-old, but police say she repeatedly resisted, pulling away from officers. After being detained, Rayon allegedly continued to resist while inside a patrol vehicle by kicking officers, attempting to injure herself, and yelling profanities in the presence of civilians.
During a search of her belongings, officers reported finding suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance believed to be narcotics.
Rayon was initially charged with misdemeanor assault on a government official, resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer, intoxicated and disruptive behavior, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. The suspected narcotics were submitted to the North Carolina State Crime Lab, which confirmed on October 8 that the substance was cocaine.
A warrant for felony possession of cocaine was issued on November 18. Rayon was later located by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on November 26 and brought before a magistrate, where she received a $10,000 secured bond.
All individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
