Zimbabwe Comedian Musa Vines Arrested Over Prank Gone Wrong

TikTok star pleads with police after Harare skit backfires

by Amelia Crawford

Zimbabwean comedian and TikTok star Musa Vines, real name Tafadzwa Musadongora, is known for his outrageous street skits in which he dresses as a woman and interacts with unsuspecting members of the public.

Often seen in his trademark black dress with white stripes, a scruffy wig, and bright red lipstick, Musa Vines creates videos that capture raw public reactions to his antics. One of his most controversial stunts involves pretending to urinate under a footbridge in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD)—a move that usually sparks angry confrontations from passersby who don’t realize it’s all part of the act.

However, his latest stunt did not go according to plan. During a routine performance in Harare, Musa Vines unknowingly crossed the line with local police officers, who were not amused by his behavior.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers ambushed and arrested him, placing him in handcuffs as a crowd gathered to witness the incident.

Realizing the situation was serious, Musa Vines began pleading with the officers, insisting that his skits were harmless TikTok videos meant for comedy.

“Haaa musadaro. Angori ma video epa TikTok andinenge ndichiita hapamborina yakanyaya Sir. Honai vanhu vese vakuungana. Musadaro mdara ndikungokumbirawo. Icomedy yandinenge ndichingoita,” he begged.

(Translation: “Please don’t do this. These are just TikTok videos, nothing serious, Sir. Look, everyone is gathering. I’m just asking for your understanding. It’s just comedy.”)

Unmoved by his explanation, one of the officers forcefully removed his wig and informed him that he would be spending the night in custody.

The arrest has sparked debate on social media, with some defending Musa Vines’ right to artistic expression, while others argue that his pranks sometimes go too far.

It remains to be seen what charges, if any, he will face following the incident.
