Zhiyong Lin Arrested for Identity Theft at Baldwin Best Buy

Brooklyn man faces multiple charges for fraud and forgery

BALDWIN, NY — The First Squad has announced the arrest of a Brooklyn man for identity theft that occurred on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at approximately 3:09 p.m. in Baldwin.

According to detectives, officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at Best Buy, located at 660 Sunrise Highway. Upon arrival, they discovered that Zhiyong Lin, 27, of 656-55 Street, Brooklyn, had attempted to apply for a store credit card multiple times using various names and forms of identification.

Lin was taken into custody without incident.

Further investigation revealed that Lin was in possession of several New York State identification cards belonging to multiple victims. Detectives believe he may have been involved in additional fraudulent activity.

Authorities are urging anyone who suspects they may have been a victim to contact the First Squad at 516-573-6153 or Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous.

Lin is charged with:

Three (3) counts of Identity Theft 2nd Degree

One (1) count of Attempted Identity Theft 2nd Degree

Three (3) counts of Forgery 2nd Degree

Two (2) counts of Unlawful Possession of Personal ID 3rd Degree

Zhiyong Lin is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
