by Amelia Crawford

Zeeshan Akhtar, a 22-year-old key suspect in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, has been arrested in Canada, according to Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam.

Akhtar was reportedly detained on a fake passport charge, but is believed to be a central conspirator in the assassination of Baba Siddique, who was shot dead on October 12, 2024.

“Zeeshan, who was involved in the Baba Siddique murder case, has been arrested in Canada. We have initiated the process to bring him back to India. We will interrogate him further after his return,” Kadam said.

Investigators say that Anmol Bishnoi, brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, had allegedly contracted Zeeshan Akhtar and Shubham Lonkar to execute the murder.

At least 25 individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the case.

The Indian government has begun extradition proceedings to bring Akhtar back for further investigation.
