GREENVILLE, N.C. — A Greenville woman was arrested on multiple charges following a traffic stop conducted by Greenville Police on Sunday, Dec. 21.
According to arrest warrants, 34-year-old Zarita Simpson faces several charges, including felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer, communicating threats, and assault on a government official or employee.
Warrants state officers stopped a vehicle and began investigating its occupants when Simpson allegedly provided a fictitious name that did not return to any individual, leading to a charge of resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer.
Police say Simpson was also found in possession of cocaine and a glass smoking device commonly used to inhale narcotics. Authorities allege she resisted officers again by refusing to enter a patrol vehicle while being taken into custody.
During the incident, warrants claim Simpson threatened a Greenville police officer and later assaulted an officer by kicking them in the leg while the officer was performing official duties.
Simpson had her first court appearance on Monday, Dec. 22, and remains held at the Pitt County Detention Center.
