Traffic Stop in Edgecombe County Leads to Drug Arrest
A traffic stop in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, resulted in the arrest of a man on multiple drug charges after deputies found marijuana and a firearm in his vehicle.
The incident occurred on Saturday when a sheriff’s deputy spotted a silver BMW on Vance Street in Rocky Mount. The driver, identified as Za’Lon Brown, was seen texting while driving, prompting the traffic stop.
During the stop, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana. When questioned, Brown admitted to having drugs in the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed ten bags of marijuana weighing a total of 274.5 grams, along with a firearm.
Brown was taken into custody and charged with:
Felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana
Felony possession of marijuana
Felony maintaining a vehicle for use or sale of controlled substances
Operating a motor vehicle without a license
Mobile phone use while driving
He is being held at the Edgecombe County Detention Center on a $25,000 secured bond.
