Zachary Verrastro Arrested in Flemington Car Theft Incident

Suspect drags victim and crashes vehicles during escape

by Sophia Bennett

Flemington – A routine mistake of leaving a car running escalated into a dangerous confrontation when Zachary Verrastro, of Asbury, allegedly tried to steal it.

The Flemington Borough Police Department responded to Capner Street between Main Street and Park Avenue on Monday after receiving reports of a car theft in progress.

Police said the victim had parked near the U.S. Post Office, leaving the vehicle running with keys inside. While inside the building, Verrastro entered the car and attempted to drive off.

The victim pursued Verrastro, leading to a confrontation in which he was dragged by the car and struck multiple times. During the escape, Verrastro also collided with two other vehicles—one moving and occupied, and another parked.

Police are investigating the incident and have taken steps to locate and apprehend Verrastro.
