A 33-year-old man in Texas has been arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child after police say he impregnated a 12-year-old girl.
Zachary Suarez was taken into custody on Tuesday and booked into the McLennan County Jail, according to an arrest affidavit.
Authorities said the alleged assault occurred in 2023, when Suarez was 30 and the victim was only 12 years old. The girl, now 14, was treated at a hospital on May 31, 2023, where it was discovered she was six weeks pregnant.
Initially, the child did not disclose the identity of the father. However, following the birth of the baby, detectives collected DNA samples from the newborn.
Testing revealed a CODIS hit linking the baby’s DNA to Suarez. A follow-up DNA sample from Suarez confirmed the match, with a 99.99999998% probability of paternity, according to forensic reports.
Suarez is currently being held on a $50,000 bond, jail records show.
