PROVO, Utah (ABC4) — Authorities have arrested Zachary Ingalls, 31, of Orem, in connection with a fatal rollover crash that killed Kortnie Benson Barajas, 33, on Kyhv Peak Road.
The incident happened on August 1, 2025, when Barajas was found dead inside a vehicle approximately 50 yards from the roadway. Later that morning, Ingalls reportedly checked into a local emergency room with head and leg injuries. He informed hospital staff that he had been in a crash and left someone behind in the vehicle.
The Provo Police Department was notified and found the crash site, where Barajas had already died.
A toxicology test later revealed THC, opiates, and alcohol in Ingalls’ system. According to police, he has a prior conviction from a 2022 crash that also involved serious injuries and a positive THC test.
On September 11, Ingalls was booked into Utah County Jail and is being held on automobile homicide charges. As of now, no formal charges have been filed.
Barajas’ family believes she may have been returning from a camping trip. Her relationship with Ingalls at the time of the crash remains unclear.
“Kortnie’s passing left a deep void in our lives,” said America Miller, her sister-in-law.
Barajas is survived by her husband and children.
