Kewanee, IL — Police in Kewanee have arrested 21-year-old Zachary Huffman in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries that occurred between May 14 and May 30. According to a statement from the Kewanee Police Department, Huffman was initially issued a Notice to Appear (NTA) under the Illinois SAFE-T Act and released from custody.
However, while awaiting a court hearing, Huffman allegedly committed another vehicle burglary on May 30. During that investigation, officers discovered he was in possession of a firearm. As he was already on pretrial release, the Henry County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized his immediate detention. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Henry County Jail.
Huffman now faces multiple charges, including:
Unlawful possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card (Class A misdemeanor)
Burglary without causing damage (Class 3 felony)
Additional charges may be filed pending further investigation. A Class 3 felony in Illinois carries a potential prison sentence of two to five years. Huffman is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Henry County Court in Cambridge on June 9.
