Yvonne Ivey and Angelica Alexander Arrested Amid Investigation

Columbus City Employees Arrested in Finance Department Probe

by Sophia Bennett

Two arrests have been made in connection with an investigation into the Columbus Consolidated Government’s finance department. Yvonne Ivey, a former city employee, and Angelica Alexander, the city’s Finance Director, were both arrested but have since been released from jail.

Angelica Alexander was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer. Meanwhile, Yvonne Ivey, who served as the tax supervisor for the city of Columbus before being terminated last year, faced two warrants for battery. The charges are related to incidents involving two city employees.

According to Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Jeremy Hattaway, witness interviews revealed that Ivey became physically confrontational with employees in an unprovoked manner before her termination, which led to the battery charges.

The investigation began after gross tax receipts from Columbus City Manager Isaiah Hugley’s personal business were posted on social media, which led to further inquiries into the city’s finance department. Several employees were interviewed as part of the probe.

Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman confirmed that the investigation, including the findings, was reviewed by Lamar County Chief Assistant District Attorney Wayne Jerningan after the Muscogee County District Attorney recused himself from the case.

Both Ivey and Alexander are currently out of jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.
