In two separate drug busts, Goa Police arrested two individuals on Saturday and seized 1kg of ganja worth approximately Rs1 lakh in the international market, officials confirmed.
In the first case, a narcotics raid at Campal led to the arrest of Yuraj Karde (27), a resident of Betim, who was caught red-handed in possession of 1kg of suspected ganja. North Goa SP Rahul Gupta confirmed the seizure and stated that further investigation is underway to trace the source and distribution network.
In the second operation, conducted by Mandrem Police, Afsal Puthiyaveettil (33), a native of Kerala, was arrested. During interrogation, Afsal disclosed that he sourced the contraband from Shabeel K V, also from Kannur, Kerala.
“Call logs and monetary transactions between Afsal and Shabeel pointed to the latter’s involvement in the drug supply chain,” said SP Gupta.
Based on this evidence, Shabeel was located and arrested in Frazer Town, Bangalore, following due legal procedure, and brought to Goa for further investigation.
