Guntur, Andhra Pradesh – A 33-year-old hi-tech burglar, who learned to break into vehicles by watching YouTube videos, was arrested by Guntur district police, bringing an end to a three-month crime spree. The accused, Jangam Baji, is a resident of Gorijavolu village in Nadendla mandal, Palnadu district.
Police said Baji meticulously studied online tutorials to master car window-breaking techniques. He targeted parked vehicles, mostly at night, swiftly smashing windows and stealing valuables such as laptops, gold ornaments, and cash.
According to Superintendent of Police Satish Kumar, Baji had already been named in a 2022 murder case registered at Narasaraopet I Town Police Station and had a rowdy sheet opened against him.
In August, multiple car thefts were reported in Nallapadu and Nagarampalem police limits. These incidents prompted authorities to launch a special probe, involving teams from Nallapadu, Nagarampalem, CCS, and other police stations.
Using CCTV footage, technical surveillance, and on-ground evidence, the joint investigation team tracked down and arrested Baji.
During interrogation, Baji confessed to 10 vehicle break-ins across Guntur city. Police recovered six laptops, Rs2 lakh in cash, and 11 grams of gold ornaments from him.
The investigation underscores the increasing use of technology in crime, as well as the need for citizens to avoid leaving valuables in unattended vehicles.
Police are urging the public to be vigilant and to report suspicious activity promptly.
