A 27-year-old youth, Gavisiddhappa Nayak, was allegedly murdered by a group of 3-4 people on Bahaddur Bandi Road, Ward 3, Sunday night. Nayak, a resident of Kurubar Oni and a driver by profession, was attacked while riding his bike.
The prime accused, Sadiq Hussain Kolkar, surrendered at the town police station following the incident. Reports suggest the motive behind the murder was a prolonged affair Nayak had with a minor girl from a particular community, despite warnings from leaders of both communities.
Kolkar, who was previously in a relationship with the girl, reportedly became enraged after Nayak eloped with her. Kolkar, along with 2-3 associates, attacked Nayak in the crowded area.
Nayak’s relative, Yamanappa Nayak, a member of the Ojanahalli gram panchayat, demanded a thorough investigation to determine if the murder was solely due to the personal affair or other reasons.
Koppal SP Ram Arasiddi stated the crime stemmed from a personal dispute. “The prime accused has been arrested, and efforts are on to apprehend the other suspects. Increased patrolling is underway to prevent further incidents,” he said.
Ballari zone IGP Vartika Katiyar visited Koppal to review the situation and oversee the investigation.
