CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — Two individuals have been charged in federal court with allegedly stealing $2.8 million from a couple who have been missing since March, according to court documents unsealed Monday in Central Islip.
Yinye Wang, also known as “Roy Wang,” who has addresses in Roslyn and College Point, and Qiuju Wu of Flushing, face bank fraud charges for orchestrating a scheme that targeted the missing couple’s accounts.
Though the victims are not officially named in court filings, the details match reports of the disappearance of Peishuan Fan and JuanJuan Zwang, who were last seen at their mansion in Old Brookville.
According to the federal complaint, the fraud began on June 29, when Wu allegedly altered her personal bank account — held at a multinational institution referred to as “Bank-1” — to include Victim-1 as a joint account holder with rights of survivorship. Wu and Victim-1’s names, signatures, and Social Security numbers were used to modify the account.
At the time, Wu’s account held just $1,919, but within two days, over $1.3 million was transferred into the account from Victim-1’s. Additional transactions followed:
$190,000 was moved to a business account allegedly linked to Wu.
Wu then allegedly withdrew $700,000 in person, captured on surveillance footage at a Flushing branch.
A total of more than $2 million was eventually siphoned from the victims’ accounts.
Footage from another nearby branch also captured both Wang and Wu conducting financial transactions during the same period, authorities say.
Investigators further allege that Wang is tied to other identity theft schemes, some connected to accounts at the same financial institution.
Wang was arrested in California on September 5 and released on bond. Wu was taken into custody in Texas and is currently detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement due to her undocumented status.
Both suspects are set to appear in federal court in Central Islip on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
The FBI and local authorities continue to investigate the whereabouts of the missing couple, and the case is ongoing.
