Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has reportedly detained Yevgeny Filippov, the long-serving health minister of the Krasnodar region, on suspicion of fraud, according to state media reports.
Filippov, who has held the position since 2013, is accused of using his official role to unlawfully enrich himself and members of his family. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison. Authorities have not yet issued an official public statement regarding the case.
His reported arrest comes amid a broader wave of investigations targeting senior officials in the Krasnodar region. Over the past year, several high-ranking figures, including former deputy governors, have faced criminal prosecution, indicating increasing scrutiny of regional leadership.
Sources cited by state media allege that Filippov and his family owned 57 properties across five cities in the region, with an estimated total value of around 1 billion rubles (approximately $12.1 million). These holdings reportedly include dozens of apartments and multiple non-residential properties, including assets in the resort city of Sochi.
Filippov, a trained obstetrician-gynecologist, was active on his public Telegram account earlier on the day of his reported detention.
Media reports suggest the case may be connected to an ongoing investigation involving former Krasnodar Deputy Governor Anna Minkova, who was detained earlier this year on embezzlement charges. Authorities had previously conducted searches at Filippov’s office as part of that probe.
The situation remains under investigation, with further details yet to be officially confirmed.
