Yelahanka New Town police have arrested a man for allegedly breaking into a real estate office and stealing Rs 10 lakh in cash, reportedly to meet his brother’s hospital expenses.
The accused has been identified as Ashok. Police said Ramachandra Chari, who runs Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Real Estate in the Yelahanka suburb, locked the office by pulling down the rolling shutter around 11 am on January 3 and left the premises.
When Chari returned at about 4 pm, he discovered that Rs 10 lakh kept inside a table drawer was missing. He subsequently approached the police and lodged a complaint, following which a case was registered.
Based on CCTV footage from the area and inputs from informers, police traced and detained Ashok. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to committing the theft.
Investigators said the accused frequently visited the area to eat gobi near the office and had observed where the office keys were usually kept. Using this information, he allegedly gained access to the premises and carried out the theft.
Police said Ashok claimed he spent the stolen money on his brother’s medical treatment. Officials also revealed that he is involved in several other criminal cases. Further investigation is ongoing.
