In a swift operation, police on July 9 arrested five individuals involved in the Shirgaon robbery case reported on June 30, recovering 35.5 tolas of gold valued at approximately Rs25.32 lakh. The suspects, all residents of nearby localities, were apprehended from Sainagar forest area following a trap laid by investigators.

Akash Ravi Mainawat (29) – Mulshi
Rutik Ravi Mainawat (21) – Mulshi
Abhisekh Ranjit Nanawat – Paud
The original complaint, filed at Shirgaon Police Station, stated that 36.6 tolas of gold and silver ornaments worth Rs32.65 lakh were stolen. Using CCTV footage, police tracked a vehicle used in the robbery to Lonavala, which led to identifying Yashodas Rathod and eventually the rest of the gang.
Police used technical surveillance and local intelligence to track the accused to a forest near Sainagar, where all five were arrested. The suspects confessed to the robbery, and police recovered the gold and the vehicle used.
Joint Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police said, “We have recovered the gold jewellery; one more suspect is absconding, and efforts are underway to recover the stolen silver ornaments.”
The accused reportedly conducted a recce before committing the robbery. Investigations into the missing silver and any other accomplices are ongoing.
