Yamunanagar Police Arrest Karamjeet for Rs12L Gurdwara Theft

Sevadar caught stealing cash, gold, and foreign currency from Gurdwara Patshahi Nauvin

Acting swiftly on precise intelligence, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA)-1 team of Yamunanagar Police has arrested Karamjeet alias Sandeep, a resident of Satsisi village, Rajasthan, accused of stealing valuables from Gurdwara Sahib Patshahi Nauvin in Jhiverheri village.

DSP Rajesh Kumar, at a press briefing, announced the arrest under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Surendra Bhoria. Karamjeet was apprehended near Khan Ahmadpur bus stand, Ambala, following a tip-off about his whereabouts.

The accused, who had served as a sevadar at the gurdwara for about a month, confessed to the theft on June 9. Around 1:30 am, he broke into the gurdwara’s storage and stole Rs 11.80 lakh in cash, Rs 20,150 in foreign currency (including $500 and 150 euros), three gold bangles, 14 gold rings, silver items, and a motorcycle.

The theft was reported by gurdwara head Sant Kashmir Singh the following morning when he discovered the valuables missing. A case was registered, and the Crime Branch-1 led the investigation.

Following Karamjeet’s arrest, police recovered Rs 9,27,300 in cash, the gold jewellery, and the motorcycle. Efforts continue to trace the remaining foreign currency as interrogation proceeds.

DSP Kumar praised the team’s quick action and highlighted how the accused exploited his trusted position to commit the crime. The investigation remains active with further recoveries expected.
