In a dramatic police operation early Monday, 43-year-old Yaad Ram, a prime suspect in the theft of gold and silver ornaments worth Rs1.5 crore from Natthilal Hariom Jewellers in Nuh, was apprehended in Bhondsi, Gurugram.

Ram, a resident of Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, was involved in the December 28 robbery where his gang stole nearly 60 kilograms of silver and 200 grams of gold. During the operation between 12:30 am and 1 am, he opened fire on the Gurugram Sector-40 crime branch team and was shot in both legs before being taken into custody.

Gurugram police public relations officer Sandeep Turan confirmed that Ram was also wanted in a petty theft case in Farrukhnagar and carried a reward of Rs1 lakh from the Nuh police. He is currently undergoing treatment at a civil hospital and will be formally arrested once medically cleared.

Nuh police officials stated that Ram’s interrogation is expected to provide leads on other gang members and the whereabouts of the stolen ornaments.
