HAMMOND, La. (April 7, 2025) — Xavier “Zata” Thompson, 47, of Tickfaw, was arrested by the Hammond Police Department Narcotics Division with assistance from the K-9 Division during an operation targeting narcotics distribution from a local motel.
Investigators had identified Thompson as a suspect in the sale of heroin laced with fentanyl. He was observed exiting his motel room and entering a vehicle when police moved in. As officers approached, Thompson attempted to flee and discarded an object, but was quickly taken into custody.
A search of the area revealed a clear plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine. A further search of Thompson’s person uncovered three separate bags containing suspected fentanyl.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for Thompson’s motel room, where Brittany Warren, 37, of Ponchatoula, was found. A search of the room uncovered:
A bag of marijuana
Plate containing suspected fentanyl powder
Multiple Suboxone films
Various pills
Clear bag of suspected heroin
Methamphetamine smoking pipe
Digital scale
Packaging materials
Both Thompson and Warren were booked into the Hammond City Jail.
Thompson, who has a history of narcotics convictions, is currently on parole stemming from a 2023 Hammond PD arrest. A detainer has been placed on him pending further proceedings.
The Hammond Police Department emphasized the ongoing threat posed by fentanyl, which is increasingly found in other narcotics. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in the Hammond area, stressing the deadly risk these substances pose to the community.
