ARLINGTON, Texas — A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with a double homicide that occurred at an Arlington apartment complex on May 29, 2025.
Xavier Weddington was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force on May 30 in Grand Prairie. He was booked into the Arlington City Jail before being transferred to the Tarrant County Jail.
The victims, identified as Jason Cuevas, 17, and Bryan Cuevas, 21, were found with gunshot wounds outside the Paddock on Park Row Apartments around 5:11 p.m. Both were transported to a local hospital, where they later died from their injuries.
Just minutes after the shooting, a 911 call at 5:32 p.m. reported a man—later identified as Weddington—shot in the leg on Sherry Street, nearly four miles from the crime scene. Weddington initially claimed he was attacked by an unknown shooter while walking to a relative’s house. However, inconsistencies in his story raised suspicion.
A witness later identified Weddington as the shooter, both verbally and in a photo lineup, confirming that he was present during the fatal encounter. Investigators also confirmed that a friend picked up Weddington from the apartment complex shortly after the incident and dropped him off at the location on Sherry Street.
Authorities believe the Cuevas brothers had arranged a “high-risk transaction” with Weddington that escalated into violence. Multiple firearms were recovered from the scene.
The case remains under active investigation by Arlington police detectives.
