A 24-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday evening in Ziro, Lower Subansiri district, for allegedly peddling suspected heroin, according to police officials.

The arrest followed a tip-off received by the Ziro Police regarding drug trafficking activity near Hapoli Market. A police team launched a swift operation and apprehended the suspect, identified as Tana Yami (name changed due to legal reasons).

Upon searching her, officers recovered:

15 grams of suspected heroin, packed in small plastic vials
Rs₹2,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales

A mobile phone allegedly used for coordination of drug deals

Superintendent of Police Keni Bagra confirmed that the seized heroin is estimated to be worth around Rs50,000 in the local market. Legal action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been initiated, and further investigation is ongoing to trace the supply chain.

This arrest follows a broader crackdown on narcotics in the region. Earlier in Naharlagun and Banderdewa, five individuals were arrested with 140 grams of heroin, indicating a growing concern over drug circulation in the area.
