Woman Charged with Attempted Murder After Shooting Man in Greenbrier County

Tyler Truman faces attempted murder charge after shooting Stephen Bennett in the head

RENICK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman from Greenbrier County is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly shooting a man in the head at a residence near Renick on the night of January 20, 2025.

According to the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home on Leanard Long Road around 10:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, they found 48-year-old Stephen Bennett, the homeowner, suffering from a gunshot wound to the side of his head.

Investigators later determined that Tyler Truman, 36, who also lived at the residence, had fired two shots at Bennett, one of which struck him in the head.

At the time of the shooting, five children were inside the home. Authorities contacted Child Protective Services to assist with the children’s care.

Bennett was airlifted to a trauma center in Virginia for urgent medical treatment.

Tyler Truman was taken into custody and transported to Southern Regional Jail, where she was charged with attempted murder.

The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Team processed the crime scene, and the sheriff’s office was assisted by the West Virginia State Police, Greenbrier County Emergency Ambulance Service, and the Greenbrier County Emergency Operations Center.

Sgt. M. Doss of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office is leading the ongoing investigation.
