A woman, Chanchal Meena, was arrested for stealing cash and valuables worth over Rs 12 lakh from her friend’s house in the Sanyogitaganj area, police said on Sunday.

Ritesh Sakhla, a resident of Kanchanbagh, filed a complaint after discovering that cash and gold and silver ornaments worth more than Rs 12 lakh were missing from his home. During the initial investigation, police suspected his neighbor, Chanchal Meena, and detained her. However, lacking sufficient evidence, she was released.

Further investigation led police to gather her mobile phone and bank details, which helped establish her involvement. Upon re-arrest, Chanchal allegedly confessed that she had stolen the valuables during visits to Sakhla’s house, where she was a friend of his wife.

Chanchal reportedly observed the wife storing ornaments in an almirah and later stole cash and jewelry from it. Some stolen ornaments were sold to bullion trader Anshul Jain of Nagda, who was also detained. Police have recovered Rs 3.37 lakh in cash and ornaments worth Rs 9 lakh from the accused. The investigation is ongoing.
