In a major breakthrough, police in Thane district have arrested a woman allegedly involved in a drug trafficking racket and seized MD (mephedrone) worth Rs4.4 lakh from her possession.
According to officials, the accused was spotted behaving suspiciously in the Vadavali area of Kalyan town on December 5. Acting on the suspicion, police personnel stopped her for questioning and conducted a search.
During the search, officers recovered 22 grams of MD, which was seized immediately. “The contraband is valued at Rs4.4 lakh, and the woman was taken into custody on the spot,” a police official from Khadakpada police station said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
The accused has been identified as Fatima Tarbez Jaffri, a resident of Ambivili in Kalyan. She has been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused has links to a larger drug distribution network operating in the region.
