A 32-year-old woman from central Quang Tri Province has been arrested for allegedly defrauding individuals by falsely claiming she could process labor export applications to the United States. Hoang Thi La Hang was taken into custody on Wednesday by Quang Tri Provincial Police, facing charges of fraudulent appropriation of property.
Between May and October 2024, Hang promised to help a local man obtain the necessary labor export documents to secure a job in the U.S. The man, trusting her assurances, had his family pay repeated sums of money to cover supposed “processing fees.”
After receiving over VND500 million (approximately $20,000), Hang allegedly used the funds for her own personal benefit, rather than for the intended purpose.
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the case, and more details may emerge as the probe progresses. Hang is currently facing serious charges related to fraud and embezzlement.
