Kalewadi Police have arrested Sonali Nilesh Ohol (34) for stealing jewelry worth Rs6.29 lakh from the house of her neighbor, Akash Santosh Achari (30), in Rahatni. The theft occurred on December 16 when Achari, in a hurry to take his sick child to a doctor, accidentally left his house door open. Seizing the opportunity, Ohol entered the house and stole various gold and silver jewelry items.
When detained and questioned, Ohol confessed to the crime. The police recovered the stolen items from her residence, which included a 2.75-tola gold necklace, a 3.75-tola mangalsutra with a pendant, a 1-tola gold choker, a half-tola gold bangle, 1.5-gram gold earrings, two 5.5-gram gold chains, and several silver ornaments, such as 17 pairs of children’s bangles, anklets, and toe rings. In total, the jewelry weighed 8.7 tolas and was valued at Rs6.29 lakh.
The operation was led by Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner Vishal Gaikwad, and Assistant Commissioner Sunil Kurade. Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Bahirat, along with Inspector Vikram Bansode, Sub-Inspector Sachin Chavan, and the rest of the team, played a key role in arresting Ohol and recovering the stolen goods.
This case highlights the importance of securing homes and being cautious about leaving doors unlocked, as thieves often take advantage of such opportunities.
