A 30-year-old woman, Priya Garg, was arrested for allegedly stealing gold and silver jewelry worth over Rs30 lakh from a bank locker in Modinagar. Her husband, Nitin Garg, remains on the run.
The incident was reported by Isha Goyal, who filed a complaint on October 25. Isha claimed that 40 to 42 tolas of gold and 50 to 60 tolas of silver jewelry were stolen from her locker at a Bank of Baroda branch in Modinagar. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Section 305 (theft in a dwelling house or place of worship) of the BNS Act.
During the investigation, the police visited the house of Priya Garg and her husband, Nitin, who had a locker next to Isha’s. There, the police recovered 361 grams of gold jewelry and over 1 kg of silver jewelry, which were found to be part of the stolen items. Priya was arrested, while Nitin is still at large.
Priya revealed during interrogation that she and Nitin had visited the bank on the day of the theft. They found Isha’s locker open with jewelry inside and seized the opportunity to steal the items. The couple had planned to sell the stolen goods, but their actions were discovered by the police.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are actively working to apprehend Nitin Garg.
