Sukinda Police have arrested Dumari Munda (30) for allegedly killing her husband Babuli Munda (36) and burying his body in the backyard of their home in Dubikhal village, Jajpur district, Odisha. Dumari later surrendered at the Sukinda police station and confessed to the crime.
The couple had been married for about seven years and were residing at Dumari’s parental home. Their relationship reportedly involved frequent quarrels over petty issues. On Thursday evening, while Dumari’s parents were away at the market, a verbal dispute escalated into a physical altercation. Babuli allegedly assaulted Dumari, who retaliated by attacking him with a stick, causing his death.
After the incident, Dumari kept the body inside the house. When her parents returned, she informed them of the incident, and the family buried Babuli’s body in the backyard in an attempt to cover up the crime.
The matter came to light when villagers learned of the incident on Sunday night and advised Dumari’s family to report it. Following their suggestion, Dumari surrendered and confessed.
Sukinda police registered a case and conducted a thorough investigation. A scientific team exhumed the body in the presence of the Sukinda tehsildar and Additional Superintendent of Police of Kalinga Nagar. The body was subsequently sent for post-mortem examination.
Police stated that Dumari claimed she was fed up with her husband’s frequent drunkenness and abuse, which led to the fatal attack. She was forwarded to court and later remanded in judicial custody after her bail plea was rejected.
